You’ve got to hand it to the Republican Propaganda Channel, otherwise known as Fox News. They will go to great lengths to spin anything negative about Republicans and blame it on anyone or anything other than whichever Republican might have possibly done something wrong.
Take Sunday, for example. Fox News host Brit Hume doesn’t think that Chris Christie is a bully. Just screaming to folks, actually constituents and members of the media tasked to monitor him, doesn’t make the New Jersey Governor a threatening guy or a thug.
And by NJ Governor, the reference is to the immediate present but maybe not the future. Impeachment talk and all.
Christie is famous for lashing out at anyone who disagrees with him or dares to question any of his actions or beliefs. From teachers to folks strolling on the boardwalk to members of the GOP concerned about the Governor cozying up the Kenyan Menace just before the election.
But pshaw. Please explain Mr. Hume:
“I have to say that in this sort of feminized atmosphere in which we exist today, guys who are masculine and muscular like that in their private conduct and are kind of old-fashioned tough guys run some risks.”
A female Fox contributor was astounded. “Feminized!” Fox contributor Lauren Ashburn exclaimed.
Hume continued to explain:
“Atmosphere. By which I mean that men today have learned the lesson the hard way that if you act like kind of an old-fashioned guy’s guy, you’re in constant danger of slipping out and saying something that’s going to get you in trouble and make you look like a sexist or make you look like you seem thuggish or whatever. That’s the atmosphere in which we operate.”
This guy is very much an old-fashioned masculine, muscular guy. And there are political risks associated with that. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but that’s how it is.”
So shut up ladies and don’t be stupid. Just shut down some access lanes but don’t leave an email trail.
